The Masrah Dance Company presents Egyptian tradition of celebration. Leila Kebira, Saint’s Day, is celebrated in carnival atmosphere with folk artists, e.g. a marionette theatre. A wedding celebration is enhanced by traditional dancers and guests from abroad. A healing Zar ritual will banish evil spirits by dance and trace like sleep and finally, with the dawn, we are able to enjoy sparkling nightclub performances.

This performance was inspired by the Egyptian film with the dance scenes, stars and music that have become classics loved by all of the Arab world as well as oriental dance enthusiasts. The show features music from the Golden Age of the Egyptian film in the 1940s as well as the 1960s, including the beloved Kahramana and Tamra Henna. The modern film is represented by Alli Sootak from the film Destiny, sung by Mohammed Munir.

A bride is being beautified by henna painting on the eve of her wedding, and her family and friends gather together to sing and dance the night away. Susu, the bride, met Hasaneen, her fiancé, in front of a Cairene bath house. The Henna Night tells their story, beginning a long while ago in the Upper Egypt and visiting both the Arabian Peninsula and Port Said. The enraged mother of the groom receives healing in a Zar ritual. But how ends the Henna Night?
